Dallas is humid. Even when it’s cold out, there’s a solid chance that on day two without washing your hair your scalp has enough grease to fry an omelette in Umph (sorry for the mental picture). While greasy hair seems like a fact of life, what if I could show you a way to wash your hair that would make you quit using dry shampoo forever?
Okay I know, this sounds incomprehensible. But just hear me out. It’s called Reverse Shampooing, and once you try it you’ll never go back to boring old lather, rinse, and repeat. Basically you condition your ends, and then without rinsing, shampoo your scalp before washing it all out together. I know what you’re thinking- this goes against the natural order of things. It sounds like dessert before a three course meal. Both are good, but need to be done in a certain order. While this may seem to go against everything you stand for, trust me when I say this is innovation at its finest.
For starters, the reason it works so well is that the conditioner softens and protects your hair from being stripped of its healthy natural oil by shampoo. The shampoo then washes out all the grime without damaging your hair, increasing your natural volume and providing you with cleaner and softer hair than you’ve ever had. The best part of this hair hack is that you don’t even have to make a pit stop to Target in order to use it. The shampoo and conditioner you already have in your shower caddy are perfect if you just switch the order. If you don’t want to take it from me, listen to Nina Dimachki, artistic director for Kérastase. She says reverse shampooing “promotes a longer lasting blow dry and primes the hair before cleansing, allowing shampoo to distribute easier and more evenly.” When it comes to hair care, the simpler the better. And it doesn’t get easier than this.
