The Color of the Year… There’s More Than One

February 10, 2021 by

Annually the Pantone Color Institute releases their choice for the color of the year, after an incredibly unpredictable 2020… they’ve made a very unexpected decision.

Instead of choosing a single color, Pantone selected two colors to be the color of the year to express more profound meaning and “highlight how different elements come together to support one another.” The colors of the year are Ultimate Grey and Illuminating, a shade of yellow. Pairing these colors together is intended to represent a message of both strength and hopefulness for the coming year. Leatrice Eiseman, the director of the Pantone Color Institute explained that

The union of an enduring Ultimate Grey with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a color combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit.

Ultimate Grey and Illuminating both symbolize the conflicting moods that we all experienced throughout the pandemic. Still, we must remain optimistic, and what better way to do that than with a pop of color! If you’re interested in incorporating this year’s Pantone color palette in your wardrobe and stay on top of the color trends for this year, I’ve got you covered!
