Well boys and girls, looks like we’re on our last leg of the school year.
It seems like everyone’s teetering along the line of finishing final projects and securing move-out dates. Personally, I just hung up a phone call with my mother to discuss hotel reservations for when she comes to help me move out but could hardly get a word in over her complaints that The Lumen “just doesn’t have a very good wine selection.”
“I’m sorry?” I said.
On another note, what’s everyone’s plan? Internship in Manhattan? Summering in Montauk? Don’t you just love how shamefully we fit the SMU stereotype sometimes. I take it with a grain of salt.
I’ll be here in Dallas for summer school (painstakingly fulfilling requirements for a timely graduation), in case anyone in town wants to join me for my new weekly tradition, Miraval Mondays paired with episodes of My Strange Addiction… or just a generic Wasted Wednesday…we can drink anything!
I suppose since this is SMUStyle I should probably gear over to a non-alcoholic topic???
OKAY so here’s what I wanted to discuss; the optimal summer shoe for internship attire and leisure. Not the sandal, not the wedge, possibly the Gucci slide, but above even that ~ the sneaker.
Everyone needs a little chic sneak in their lives. The flat soled babies can take you from the AM to the PM in style and comfort – two things that don’t always mix harmoniously.
I’m a little bummed I don’t have an internship this summer, but for those of you who do, the sneaker could work wonders saving you a lot of time rummaging through your closet in the morning because they pair with anything and make you look so effortlessly pulled together. Let’s try it from most formal moving to casual.
pair slacks (loathe the word and the pant, but for you corporate b!tches it’s a necessity) + button down + blazer + sneaks = you immediately transform into Kendall Jenner
Suppose denim is appropriate in your workplace. Suppose you are fabulous and free-spirited, yet dedicated and hard-working. Suppose you demonstrate that with your casual footwear paired with an outfit that means business.
Jeans + top + sneaks = and just like that, your street style is untouchable.
Not much to be said here because at the heart of it you can wear the right sneakers with a trash bag as a dress and still look good. But if it’s inventory day and you’re counting how many swatches of maroon leather are in the fabric closet, clearly this is going to be a sweats + chic sneaks day incase you run into Olivia Culpo at the Bergdorf’s restaurant as you shovel a bite of your $32 lobster salad down your throat.
Sweats + sneaks = a surprising combination of I pulled this together blindly this morning but I still look… pretty damn cute baby!
Now that you’ve been reminded the endless opportunity a chic sneak can bring to your wardrobe, here’s a few of my favorites:
simple and refined – they also come in a precious blush color!
these are HOT right now and so many fabulous color variations to choose from.
Can you imagine the detail on these paired with a white summer dress? The possibilities only start here…
One can never go wrong with our classic friend, Chuck Taylor. But if you’re interested in a twist on the iconic shoe, these velvet kicks might be just what you’re looking for – and at an oh-so very affordable price!
The picture really doesn’t do it justice but this sneak has been a staple on so many celebs for the past 2 years or so. I’ve always looked along lovingly, praying I’d find them on sale one day. The hunt continues.
Work hard and brunch hard in your fav pair this summer. You can count on the chic sneak to take you anywhere in style.
