If you live in Dallas, there’s no way you haven’t heard of Five Sixty: the fine dining restaurant atop of Reunion Tower. The real question is: Is it as good as everyone says it is?
I recently ate at Five Sixty so I could give you guys a play-by-play on what you can expect if you decide to make a reservation. With a view of the entire city, and a menu created by the one and only Wolfgang Puck, I’m sure a lot of you are wondering if it’ll live up to the buzz. Let me just start by saying… LOVE.
The first thing I noticed about this restaurant was the hospitality. I approached the check-in desk before going up the elevator, and the host immediately asked me if there were any dietary concerns they needed to be aware of! I know that doesn’t matter to everyone, but for those of us with allergies, it takes a huge weight off knowing they’ll be accomodating. After I checked in, I rode up an elevator to the very top of Reunion Tower. For those of you who don’t know, the walls of Five Sixty are basically made entirely of windows, and the restaurant itself slowly rotates 360 degrees to give each table a view of the entire city! How’s that for location?
They began by bringing out a few appetizers: Tuna tartare in sesame cones, an heirloom tomato salad, and an amazing array of sushi! I totally forgot to take pictures of the first two because I was so wrapped up in eating all of it (delish)! After that, we ordered our entrees. I chose the “Steamed ‘Hong Kong Style’ Atlantic Salmon,” and my boyfriend got the “Szechuan Beef Filet ‘Au Poivre.’” Needless to say, we both devoured our dishes. I’m sorry to say that we didn’t try any of the desserts, but it was only because we were both completely stuffed from devouring everything else we’d ordered! Seriously, I think it’s impossible for anything on the menu to taste bad. Not to mention, the presentation was amazing. Every dish was so beautiful, it was hard to stop looking and start eating!
Honestly, as amazing as the food was, I think the service was almost even better. I know I already mentioned how impressed I was with their vigilance regarding my dietary restrictions, but that wasn’t the end of it. My water glass was never empty, I never had to flag down our server, and everybody was always smiling and helpful. I’ve seriously never felt this much of a need to mention how dazzled I was by the staff at a restaurant. They were just as pleasant as every other part of my experience there.
Overall, I can’t recommend Five Sixty enough! If you’re looking for the perfect restaurant for formal, date night, or just a GNO, Five Sixty is just as much a restaurant as it is an experience. Make a reservation for you and a date, your girls, or even just yourself (you deserve it after surviving these midterms)! I promise you won’t regret it.
