Road Trip Guide to Marfa, TX

February 12, 2018 by

8 hours later… you finally get to the barren desert of West Texas.

While I assume a lot of you made the 8 hour trip to Nola this past weekend, I decided to make the 8 hour trip to Marfa, TX.

Marfa is an hour away from the Mexican border, specializing in hibiscus margs, Tex-Mex, and indie boutiques.

Although we were there for less than 24 hours, it was the perfect amount of time and not a minute was wasted. We started off the vacation by packing up the car with plenty of snacks, water bottles, blankets, and of course- our cameras.

We decided to stay at El Cosmico, which makes you feel like you were on the cast of Wanderlust. It’s like glamping 2.0. We luckily got the last tent available, since the yurts, teepees and trailers were taken.

Once settled in, we changed and headed to The Capri, a bar with plenty of Tex-Mex style tapas and the famous hibiscus margarita. After sitting by the fire and talking with the locals, we went to El Cochineal for dinner. We ate homemade vegan bread, and tried dishes only available in West Texas.

As we made our way back to our tent, we stopped at the Marfa Ghost Lights viewing area. Legend says that if you wait after dark, you’ll be able to see lights dance in the distance. No one has been able to explain the phenomena, so we carried a few bottles of pinot noir and went to see for ourselves.

Being in Marfa truly was an amazing experience. I’ve never been so happy and zen in my life. I didn’t have to think about my account planning class once.

The next morning, we woke up before the sun and headed to Prada Marfa. We got there just as the sun rose. This moment might’ve been the coolest thing that I’ve ever seen. Wait- it WAS the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.

The rest of our time was taken up with window shopping the boutiques, snapping pics, eating more food, and touring the Chinati artwork foundation.

The vibes in Marfa scream serenity, simplicity, and serendipity. I highly encourage everyone to visit.

Maybe I’ll run into ya there, I’m going back next week ;P

Have fun exploring!

xoxo, Chase
