Survived syllabus week…check! Already drowning in boatloads of homework…check! Counting down the days until the Dallas heat dies…check! Sounds like we are all back into the groove of things! Well, almost. In order to do fall semester right, there is still a HUGE thing we need to cross off the list…boulevarding!!! Good news: BLVD SZN is only one week away!
For any rookies out there, boulevarding is not tailgating. Rather than picnicking out of the trunk of your car in a parking lot, you are tent-hopping, dancing, and socializing with friends on the perfectly beautified Dallas Hall lawn. And MOST importantly, boulevarding is basically SMU’s most fashion-forward event of the year. Everyone is dressed to the nines! Get ready to flaunt your absolute best outfits because this is where you make your fashion statement of the year.
While technically summer whites are illegal after Labor Day, the first boulevard is an exception because it’s a WHITEOUT! So, don’t shove your summer whites to the back of your closet just quite yet. Strict dress codes like a whiteout can be scary, especially for those big fashion risk-takers out there. Let’s be honest, an all-white outfit can seem lifeless, so when choosing your ensemble, think fun, bold, chic white party on New York City rooftop.
I would say most people take the dress route, but the options are seriously endless. Rompers, jumpsuits, white jeans and a striking white top, you name it. If you want to make a fashion statement on the boulevard, look for unique, eye-catching silhouettes or pair your all-white ensemble with some colorful accessories. Make your outfit your very own!
By the time the first boulevard comes around, I find myself staring at my closet and absolutely hating everything I see. If you can relate to this gigantic fiasco, here are some pieces you can go buy right this minute or just simply use for inspiration:
For the dress gals…
For the romper/jumpsuit lovers…
For those in desperate need of a top to pair with white jeans…
You have lots of decisions to make, so start prepping ladies! SMUStyle can hardly wait to see what all of you fashionistas sport this boulevard season!
