Q & A with Sanford Standard

September 8, 2015 by

My pal Mary Sanford McClure started a fashion blog, Sanford Standard, this past April. Now that she’s gotten into the swing of blogging, I couldn’t wait to ask our fellow mustang some quick q’s.

SS: How did Sanford Standard come about?

MS: I have always been inspired by different bloggers and dreamed of working in the fashion industry like them. I was chatting last spring with a now SMU alum and blogger, and she got me thinking. She gave me the boost I needed to start my own.

SS: What are you most excited to wear this fall? I’m trying to get my mind off of the 101 temp today.

MS: I’m digging the fringe trend, so that is definitely going to be a go-to. There is a skirt I’ve been eyeing for some time now… I think I may have to splurge.

SS: What is a trend that you could never get with?

MS: Culottes – I think they look pretty fabulous on some, but I’m steering clear…

SS: What is your favorite place to shop in Dallas?

MS: Oh goodness, this is tough. The options are endless here especially compared to my hometown. I obviously love Scoop and Neimans, but I’ve also found some great steals at Saks Off Fifth and a few upscale consignment stores.

SS: What is the one beauty product you cannot live without?

MS: Olay Quench Lotion – I’ve been obsessed with this lotion for probably 6 years. For one thing, it sparkles 🙂 I use it multiple times a day and can’t go without it. If they ever stop making it, I’m not quite sure what I’ll do.

SS: If miracles came true and you were attending the MET Ball, what designer would you want to dress you?

MS: As fabulous as the MET Ball is, I would probably choose Calvin Klein because of his classic and clean silhouettes. There’s nothing more timeless and memorable than a simple and elegant look.

SS: What fashion bloggers do you look up to?

MS: I follow quite a few bloggers including Julie Sarinana of Sincerely Jules and Krystal Schlegel. I enjoy their mix of simple and sophisticated looks. You don’t have to spend a lot to look good, and the bloggers I follow prove this.

SS: So far, what has been your favorite thing about having your own fashion blog?

MS: My blog has been a creative outlet for me. I get to experiment with different trends and styles and get feedback from friends.
