Parent’s Weekend Food Guide

October 3, 2019 by

It’s a lot of pressure choosing a place to eat when your parents are coming into town. If you don’t want to take them to your normal spots, here are some places where you can all try something new. Time to start making reservations!

BRUNCH

Le Bilboquet

Their brunch menu is perfect because it includes a wide range of options. My favorite dish is the cajun chicken, but if someone wants pancakes, they have that available too. All their food has a french flare to it. Here is their menu and where you can make a reservation.

Up on Knox

Up on Knox is hands down my favorite place for brunch. Not only are their cocktails amazing, but their food is even better. My go-to order are the bacon and egg biscuits. The pastry chef is from France… so you know you can trust him. Also recommend their baked eggs and avocado. Here is the menu.

Yolk.

If you want a more casual and comfortable atmosphere, then Yolk is your best option. Their menu is much larger than the other two options as well. My favorite thing here is the build-your-own scrambler option, but you can also customize an omelette or skillet. They have really good crepes, waffles, and french toast too. If someone in your family wants lunch a little early they offer sandwiches, soups, and salads; my favorite thing is the buffalo chicken wrap. Here is the menu.

DINNER

Sassetta

This is by far my favorite Italian spot in Dallas. It’s a little far from campus, but it’s in the Design District where there is a lot to do. This restaurant has beautiful indoor/outdoor seating and their service is always good. If you ask me, you have to have the whipped ricotta with sourdough, the burnt honey pizza, and the carbonara. They have a really large selection of wine too. Here is the menu.

Mia’s Tex Mex

Everyone will be at Mi Cocina or Gloria’s, so I recommend trying out Mia’s. Don’t be thrown off because it’s not fancy. Their menu is full of every option you could imagine and have a lot of combo plate options in case you want a little bit of everything.  Their brisket tacos are their most popular item. Here is the menu.

The Porch

For a classic American option, The Porch is really good. If there’s a game on, it’s the perfect spot because you can see their tv’s from any angle. The best thing to start with is the jalapeño cornbread with honey butter. Everyone loves the buttermilk fried chicken cobb, and my personal favorite is their Stodg burger, it’s waygu beef with a fried egg on top. Here is the menu.
