Finally it’s here – the award winning documentary Valentino the Last Emperor on legendary fashion designer Valentino Garavani. The film follows the couture curator, best known for his show-stopping red dresses, in the wake of his 2008 exit from the design house. The flick, that first showed in April at the AFI Dallas International Film Festival, is back this time with multiple showings at the Angelika. Q&As with director Matt Tyrnauer will take place today at the Angelika – Dallas following all showtimes and at the Angelika – Plano on Sunday, May 10 following the 2:10 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. showtimes. Take a study break from exams and ask the director anything from how was filming Valentino’s five pugs to are him and Anna Wintour really bffs? valentinomovie.com
One of my favorite designers here in Paris is Isabel Marant. She is the queen of Parisian cool and season after season she rules the runway with her laid-back yet classic, chic collections.
Good news for Dallas– A little bit of Paris has been brought to Texas. The Dallas boutique, V.O.D., now carries Isabel Marant. The owner of V.O.D. feels that, “Isabel Marant is all about easy, cool pieces you can wear every day. We are absolutely crazy for everything she does and she has a cult following at V.O.D.”
They made sure to buy only the best pieces. “For spring 09 we loved her gauze dress in poppy, all the plaids and the perfect black blazer and cropped pants from her Etoile collection.” (Her more budget friendly collection)
Her favorite runway collection pieces include “the short quilted skirt and crochet top and the velvet plaid shrunken vest with silk stripe dress. We also loved her oversized slouchy suede bag and of course those boots with the chains are perfection!”
V.O.D. plays host to the many modern designers and Isabel Marant fits right in with the unique, and classic feel that the boutique has. So this weekend, channel your inner Parisian and go check it out!
To see the talked about Isabel Marant items, make sure to visit V.O.D. located at 2418 Victory Park Lane.

OPI On Collins Ave. Nailpolish, Part of OPI South Beach Collection
If you are anything like me, this week is bananas. I told someone earlier that the stress of this week is worse than being in love. I can’t eat, sleep or function normally.
So how do we fix this little stress problem and take a moment to ourselves? Paint your nails. Yes. I said it. Don’t go to the salon. Do it yourself and take care of those little fingers and toes. You’ll be surprised just how valuable and therapeutic those 15 minutes of paint time will be.
Oh ya, and with OPI’s (my favorite) fab spring/summer colors, your de-stress tactic will double as a good luck charm for that big test. (I bet sizzling red nails will help you ace those finals)
A Vintage Jarma Kelly Green Handbag, $62
Holly Olmstead, owner and founder of Jarma Vintage Clothing and Accessories has a trunk show this Thursday at Armoires & More, a trendy furniture/home decor store near Lovers Lane and Inwood.
Amazing furniture, to-die-for candles and vintage jewelry? It’s not too be missed. Oh and by the way, Jarma’s Website is officially up and running with new pictures of merchandise.
Armoires & More is located at 5120 W. Lovers Ln. The trunk show is set to start at 11 a.m., this Thursday, April 30. For more information about the event e-mail email@example.com.
P.S. Rumor has it that Holly just returned from NYC and is busting at the seams with new pieces that are ripe for the picking (buying.) Think vintage coach handbags and necklaces from the
’60s and ’70s.
Here’s to a style feast: French glamour, explained.
The French are responsible for some of the most fashionably influential women in the world: Coco Chanel, Carla Bruni, and Audrey Tautou just to name a few. I find the French actresses from the ’60s and ’70s the most inspiring for any fashionista. The drama and glamour of the period made for beautiful clothes and looks. The female French actresses exhibit the qualities I love most and the trends of today often pull from this source of inspiration.
Brigitte Bardot in “Le Mepris”: Bardot was the first to coin the term “blonde bombshell.” Spotted on camera: heavy black cat-eye makeup with an adorable French-chic striped shirt. The look is timeless and could still be worn today!
Anna Karina in “Pierrot Le Fou”: In this movie, Karina plays a carefree woman on the run from the cops with her lover. Her pink dress and cardigan are striking. The light pink dress juts out at the bottom making for a beautiful silhouette.
Catherine Deneuve in “Les Demoiselles de Roquefort”: Deneuve plays a young, single girl in the South of France and wears a happy yellow dress throughout the movie. Dolce & Gabbana and Versace pushed bright dresses this spring with fixed shapes that gave a sixties vibe to it.
