NARS Blush/Bronzing Duo

NARS Blush/Bronzing Duo

At the first hint of sunshine and warm weather, summer fever hits! That’s why I am obsessed with the newest beauty products from Sephora. All of a sudden everything is baked, bronze, and promising to give you a St. Tropez-worthy glow.

Current obsession: Urban Decay Get Baked Kit ($28), a limited-edition palette in a brown Pucci-inspired case of 3 bronze and golden eyeshadows, a pop of teal shadow, a mini eyeliner, and a champagne-colored version of their famous Primer Potion that works solo or under eyeshadow. The palette is perfect for on-the-go glam and is just the thing to get you in the mood for some summer fun!

Also on my radar: NARS Highlighting/Bronzing Blush Duo in Orgasm/Laguna ($37). The double-duty compact comes with NARS famous, universally-flattering blush that gives you that perfect golden flush, along with a complimentary bronzer with just the right amount of shimmer.

Now if only I could book that trip to St. Tropez!

Chic on the Cheap: Spring Jewelry

April 14, 2009 by

We all have a sweet spot for costume jewelry. And who can resist these fun pieces, especially with such enticing price tags?

Forever21 currently carries some of the most adorable and affordable pieces to add to your spring look. All of these pieces are sure to add a kick to any outfit without leaving a hole in your wallet. Most importantly, although the price is cheap, you’ll be looking anything but.

Light pink pearlescent necklaces and rings flatter spring’s hot “new neutrals” trend. Large bangles, braided bracelets, and medallion necklaces complement the geometric and Moroccan styles seen in many designers’ Spring-Summer 2009 runway collections. And as always, Forever21 carries deliciously gaudy jewelry for any night-on-the-town outfit.

So go ahead — play around with layers, show off some bling, look chic on the cheap!

At these prices you can wear the piece once and love it or leave it.

I have a feeling you’ll be left wanting more.

All of the following can be found at Forever21 in NorthPark Center, but shop for more.

A Design Revolution: Again & Again

An Again & Again Zebra-Print Chair

An Again & Again Zebra-Print Chair

Reasons to shop (and love) Again & Again:

1. Your idea of fun is rearranging the living room furniture.

2. The budget for furnishing your first apartment is smaller than expected.

3. You would rather shop at The Glass Slipper than at The Gap, which means your furniture shouldn’t be massed produced (or from Pottery Barn) either.

4. You’ve driven by the hot pink bungalow (east of 75 at Knox-Henderson) millions of times and always mean to check it out.

5. Because refurbished and vintage doesn’t have to mean old and run down. Instead, you’ll make it mean trendy and sexy.

6. Your friends will be jealous of your one-of-a-kind finds and dub you the Queen of Apartment Decor.

April Showers: How To Buy A Raincoat

Banana Republic Double-Breasted Coat

Banana Republic Double-Breasted Coat

Alright fellas, it’s April. Other than the excitement over no school on Good Friday, this month brings rain. And if you look at the forecasts, it looks like there is going to be a lot of it. Follow these steps for raincoat success:

The collar should be popped. Don’t worry, you won’t look like a prepy idiot. That is what it’s for, to keep your neck dry.

A trench/raincoat should fit slimly and snug to your body. The bottom should be anywhere between two and six inches above the knee, according to GQ. If it fits correctly, no need to tie the belt around your waist — that is a little feminine anyways.

Khaki and black are both great options. If you are feeling a little more daring, try something bold, like red, green or electric blue.

While some are pretty pricy, you can hit up stores like Banana Republic or even Barneys co-op to find something rad and reasonable.

A Piece of Misch

Mischa Barton in a signature headband.

Mischa Barton in a signature headband.

With spring finally here and summer just around the corner, what better way to mix up your winter hair rut than with a floral headband?

My latest obsession: Mischa Barton’s designs for Stacey Lapidus.

Mischa regularly sports a beachy, laid-back hairstyle with an array of headbands for day and night. This year she teamed up with one of her favorite accessory designers, Stacey Lapidus, to create a line that stays true to the Lapidus look but channels her personal LA girl style.

You can get a piece of the OC starlette’s look directly designed by MischMisch herself: Pearls, rhinestones, and beads braided into pastel silk and chiffon fabrics look just like a treasure pulled out of the sea. (You’ll definitely feel a little more laid-back and lighter spirited with one in your hair.)

Mischa’s headbands along with other Stacey Lapidus accessories can be found at Nordstrom in NorthPark Center and at Sebastian’s in Snider Plaza.

Checkout the Stacey Lapidus Website for full collections.

To Do List: Easter Weekend!

April 10, 2009 by

I’m spending Easter weekend in (not-so-sunny) Los Angeles but if you’re in Dallas for the long weekend here’s a to-do list.
BRUNCH: What would Easter be without a great brunch…La Cubanita has $7 bottomless mimosas on Saturday and Sunday. Oh…and great breakfast tacos!
ROCK ‘N ROLL: Austin-based band Nelo is playing at the House of Blues tomorrow night. Rumor has it if they get a big turn out they’ll headline at HOB more often!
PARK & POOCH: Lee Park’s annual Easter in the Park festivities (hint: dog parade) are a great way to enjoy the spring weather and Dallas community.
PAMPER: Cocktails and manicures? Yes! Sip a cosmo and soak your toes at Nail Bar on McKinney…maybe pick up a cup of Yogilicious while you’re at it.

Live From Paris!

April 9, 2009 by

I’m here in Paris for the semester. Models at clubs, Karl Lagerfeld walking the streets, fashion shows down the street from your apartment…who wouldn’t want to be on their style game?
Parisian pre-schoolers are more fashionable than most of the people I know! Being in this city has inspired me. Spring has finally come and women are starting to break out the jumpers, funky sunglasses, and striped sailor T’s.
Style Tips For The Wanna-Be Parisian:
BLACK: French women tend to dress in all black. It makes an outfit look effortlessly timeless and chic.
THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX: Parisians get creative with the silhouette and textures of their clothes. This causes the outfit to not look depressing and drab, but updated and modern.
MESS IT UP: Parisians like to look a little messy. They have the “I just threw this incredibly fashionable outfit on in two minutes” look. The hair will be uncombed, the scarf thrown on top, and the clothes just a little baggy.
ARABIAN NIGHTS: The trend that I have noticed of late are harem pants paired with chunky wooden heels and a blazer on top. This is the “classic” look of Spring 2009 in Paris. Isabel Marant, has shown this outfit on her runway in its various forms.
So when it comes to any season, the French can be seen looking très chic. New trends may come, but the French know how to adapt that look into their classic French look.

Top Model

If you’re keeping up with America’s Next Top Model this season then you definitely know London. The stunning Agness Deyn look-alike, who grew up in Arlington, has been spotted everywhere around Dallas since her recent departure from the show. I caught up with her at the SMU Retail Club’s Fashion Show at Barney’s New York in North Park Center. London stood out in the crowd of students with her unique grunge style and platinum edgy hair. After the show, London commented that the Retail Club’s runway event was professional and well styled.

The Future of Denim: Naked & Famous

Naked and Famous - Front View

Naked and Famous - Front View

Calling all dudes looking for the perfect jean. Meet Naked & Famous Denim, the future of men’s jeans.

Naked & Famous jeans are made from imported Japanese selvedge and raw denim, made into fits in Canada. Selvedge denim is a rare fabric made days ago on shuttle looms, patented sometime around 1924.

All of the jeans are raw, meaning there are no ugly and overwhelming washes, embroidery or rips. They are all simple and classic.

The Best part? Since the jeans are raw, their fate is up to the consumer. After buying your first pair, wear them for a few months without washing them and you will see what this means. The result is a personalized jean that molds to your body. Pretty rad and reasonable…the best combination.

At just $130 a pair, Naked & Famous Denim is revolutionizing premium denim.
