We, as college students, are accustomed to small living spaces, and truly, I can speak from experience. My first-year corner dorm room in Virginia-Snider was musty, dark and literally, the size of a shoebox. However, with some major inspo and an eye for design, it is possible to transform your teeny space into the peeeerfect living environment. Check out how some of our favorite SMU babes did just that!
First, let’s talk dorms. Communal bathrooms, awkward suitemates, and the lovely dining accommodations of Umph and Arnold. Who could forget their first college dorm room? While I threw on some cute bedding and shoved 30+ pairs of shoes into my closet, some gals opt to do it a little more extra. Valentina Martino, an adorable freshie from Newport Beach, did just that. By utilizing any and all space, Val added a mirrored makeup vanity and comfy linen couch to her Cockrell-McIntosh suite. With pops of pink, white, and gray, her dorm is cozy, chic, and makes freshman-me quite jealous.
First comes dorms, next comes the sorority house. Simply put, Avery Hinson & Dylan Murphy’s room is just good vibes. When asking these SMU juniors about their inspo for the space, both girls credited a joint Pinterest mood board. From there, a similar color scheme and vibe followed. Light linen, blush pink, + gold accents turned this empty space into the ultimate girly hangout.
As senior year rolls around, a lavish apartment might just be the right call. SMUStyle’s very own, Alegra Volpe, and her roomie, Nilou Sheybani, reside in a comfy, yet chic Uptown apartment. Personally, their living room is my favorite spot to sip a good glass of Pinot. When I’m not overstaying my welcome, I’m usually admiring Alegra’s design aesthetic. Alegra bought most of her pieces at vintage and consignment shops – she loves eclectic, unique items that no one else has. However, her favorite piece you might ask…her living room rug that she brought home from her trip to Morocco this summer.
Thanks for letting me invade your personal space ladies, love you all!
