Art of the In-Between: Met Gala 2017

May 2, 2017 by

It’s the first Tuesday in May and we’re all still in awe of everything we saw last night in New York. The best of the best came out for the Met Gala, giving us all major FOMO of fashion’s most coveted event of the year.

The theme this year was Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between. Rei Kawakubo, is the first living designer since Yves Saint Laurent in 1983 to be the sole subject of the Met’s fashion exhibit. It wasn’t necessarily the easiest theme to dress up for in comparison to previous themes, but to those who dared to dress accordingly blew us away. My personal favorite who followed the theme this year was none other than Gigi Hadid in Tommy Hilfiger.

There were major risk takers this year – many with minimal coverage outfits. Bella Hadid wore a skin-tight, barely there Alexander Wang bodysuit. According to Vogue’s poll, Rihanna’s Commes des Garçon look wins Most Original this year. Kim Kardashian went for a more understated look by Vivienne Westwood this year rather than her usual, glitzy looks.
