3.1 Phillip Lim for Target

September 18, 2013 by

Hey guys, Daniela and Shelly here— the only two willing to wake up at the crack of dawn to shop…. and think, at Target nonetheless.

That’s right— Target. Not just any day at Target, but the 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target launch. We battled cockroaches (gross), Highland Park moms, and snatchy girls (and even a couple boys!) for the finds we made out with.

After spending way more than either one of us should, and one new BFF (shoot-out to our girl Mindy from the fitting room!), here’s how we styled some of our favorite pieces:

The Jet Setter

hey, no pictures, plz.

hey, no pictures, plz.

Why Daniela loves it: Not only does Shelly look like an off-the-clock actress, but she looks super comfy while at it. I really adore the pairing of the tank top with the semi-structured sweatpants – it gives off a relaxed look without looking too homeless.

Why Shelly loves it: This look is about practicality– a large carry-all tote, comfy pants to snuggle up in first class in, stylish kicks that won’t fuss as security, and a leather hat and neon shades to hide 5-AM puffy eyes.

The Serial Dater

will you go to prom with me?

will you go to prom with me?

Why Daniela loves it: The understated tuxedo outline on this simple grey tank really transforms it into a statement piece. It definitely adds that necessary je ne sais qoui to the simple flowy skirt.

Why Shelly loves it: This look perfectly combines upscale separates. Individually, each piece holds itself and yet they both work together to create a mature and polished look for day or night.

where's my latte?

where’s my latte?

Why Daniela loves it: This dress is outta control! From the zippered front, to the structured high low, and the pattern – I can’t decide what my favorite part is.

Why Shelly loves it: I. Am. Obsessed. Say goodbye tacky office wear, throw this dress on and strut your way to the corner office. The detail of this piece is absolutely astonishing but did not go unexpected with Philip Lim.

i'm just tryin ta get lucky...

i’m just tryin ta get lucky…

Why Daniela loves it: For those nights when you kinda don’t really feel like getting dressed but still want to look stellar, this is the perfect dress to throw on! It’s light, it’s cotton, it’s comfortable. What else could you ask for?

Why Shelly loves it: Duck face? Check. Cheetah print (but not Jersey Shore-status)? Check. Studded Louboutins? Well, check, even though you can’t see ‘em. Honesty, what more could you ask for?

It’s not just a tailgate…

For most college students tailgating attire means rocking a t-shirt from the campus bookstore. Luckily, this is not the case for SMU students. Just as we have perfected turning our Dedman gym sessions and 8 a.m. classes into fashionable events, SMU’s tailgates (or as we like to call them Boulevards) run in a stylish league of their own.

This past Saturday SMU students and alumni gathered together to turn the main stretch of campus into something more of a runway than a college tailgate. With a “red out” theme guiding the impeccable outfit choices of our stylish football fans, students jumped from white tent to white tent in ensembles as hot as the scorching Texas heat.

In sync with recent fall trends we saw lots of playful patterns, crop tops, stacked arm parties, and cross body bags. Guys and girls alike completed their outfits with oversized sunglasses skillfully hiding their overheating faces (freshmen take note – going to the Boulevard without your sunglasses will ensure loads of regret when looking through Flash photographs the following week…)

See you at the next Boulevard!

When it pours, She Reigns

As most of us know, Texas weather is never promising, one day sunny and hot, the next, rainy and dark. With that said, let me introduce all ya’ll to, [throat clearing cough] She Reigns. This Dallas born company turns the typical dreary raincoat purchase into a fashionable way to make a statement when the weather puts a little damp into our ‘drobe. The two owners, Cathy Williamson and her daughter in-law, Jenica, are both alumni of SMU and are all about supporting the ‘Stangs. They recently created a raincoat in our school colors for any SMUstylista[1] in need of a down-poor deflecter. Not only are these raincoats adorable, She Reigns is offering 15% of to any SMU gal who orders their Game Day Cape on their website, Just use the promo code SMUvTCU. How cool is that! No other way to be prepared for the stormy days ahead than by purchasing a coat that is guaranteed to be practical and fashionable.
