About Nati Bru

Pint-sized Cuban, born and raised in the 305. If you don't know the area code, look it up. I spend my free time arguing over which Kanye album is his greatest work and which character from Game of Thrones should be brought back from the dead. I would rather stay in from a night out on the town if there's a promising SNL host. I am most likely seen with my hair up; if it's down, I'm having a rare, good hair day. Hoping to be on a TV screen near you. Stay tuned.

Addicted 2 Adeline

September 29, 2014 by

There’s something about boutiques that entrances me. The comfortable atmosphere, the personable shopping experience, and the random pieces you can’t seem to find anywhere else….addicting I tell you. Although they don’t usually cater to the male wardrobe, I find it my responsibility (as both a fashion connoisseur and a friend) to share new fashion finds with my girls. A few weeks ago I found myself in a quaint boutique on Lovers Lane. Adeline. I had heard the name before, but my friend Amelia insisted that I come in to check it out, and I must say it was pretty dope. The walls boasted trendy must-haves, and the racks were filled with eclectic pieces. The jewelry was super cute, and they even had flash tattoos, but the price point blew my mind. Everything is so affordable, and with gas prices still on the rise, who doesn’t want to look good and save money? I knew we had to feature Adeline on the blog, so I talked to the store’s fabulous owner, Graeme, and we set up a date to shoot some of the looks you can find at Adeline for fall. I conned Daniela and Shannon into being my models (wow much photogenic) and the rest was fashion.

Adeline also has an online store, where you can shop the store’s looks as well.

Needless to say, they have really cute stuff. Graeme told me that Adeline is for that fashion forward girl who is also a smart shopper. Adeline is home to an eclectic assortment of one of a kind pieces that you aren’t really going to find anywhere else in Dallas. It’s nestled in the shopping center on Lovers Lane before Eatzi’s, so next time you’re in the hood drop by!

Pinspiration: All White

September 18, 2014 by

Commandment #3: No white shall be worn after Labor Day.

Hm… about that… with the first white-out Boulevard on Saturday, SMU is clearly throwing that commandment out the window. So while your mindset might have already placed your favorite summer whites away in the back of your closet, keep them out for just a little bit longer! Especially with the Dallas heat that’s coming back around I honestly cannot imagine wearing anything but light whites for the long awaited first Boulevard.

In case you’re stuck in a rut of dark blacks, navy, and gray – here’s some pinspiration to get everyone in the mood for Saturday!

Happy boulevarding!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Why tailgate when you can boulevard? I would venture to say football season is the best time of the year. Yes, we are not the best on the field, but we tailgate like no other.

Because we have our first home game this Saturday, here are a few tracks you should listen to get pumped up, tailgate, and also expect to hear in some of the tents in front of Dallas Hall. SMUstyle will be on the boulevard taking pictures of the best dressed so make sure you look your absolute best!

The Trend Report [Neck Pieces]

September 11, 2014 by

I guess over the past year or so I’ve started obsessing over jewelry and realizing the subtle power it holds. Now that fall fashion is really starting to flood the stores, I had to take a closer look at this season’s must-have jewelry trends.

Pendant Pieces

Simple, elegant, and personal pieces seem to be layering up on the necks of the trendy. Usually in groups of one to three, these tell a story. Each piece with a special meaning, coming together to look like a collection of treasures…love it. Definitley the most versatile trend, while also giving you tons of room for creativity and your personal touch.

Jungle Freaks

Yassssss, these bold pieces consist of spikes, coins, beads, and tassels. Probably my favorite of all the trends, these necklaces are chunky, edgy, and can really step up a look. Drawing inspiration from runways like Saint Laurent, these mystic pieces have seemed to transition from summer to fall.

P.S. can be used as weapons (lord knows campus gets sketchy after 8).

Choked Up

Teeny bopper or bad ass? Chokers are definitely back and I think if you can rock the look, (I’m thinking LA/London super grunge) you should totally add one to your wardrobe. Among the likes of acid wash denim, flannels, and crop tops, chokers are back from the past, and needless to say I’m into it.

The Girl You Want (Need) To Get To Know

Jules Pouch and I first met when I hurriedly ran over to say goodbye to my roommate before heading to SMUstyle’s brunch at Vagabond. She was tucked into bed with my roommate and her sister, clearly recapping the festivities of the night before.

Once arriving at brunch that Sunday, the SMUstyle team got down to business discussing who to profile for the coming week. When Jules’ name came up, I immediately jumped at the opportunity to interview her. I’d been hearing this pretty lady’s name quite a bit (all in the best ways, of course) and wanted to get the inside scoop.

Who She Is: Jules Pouch
Year: Freshman
Hometown: Corona del Mar, Newport Beach, CA

When walking into the newly completed Loyd Residential Commons, Taylor, SMUstyle’s resident photographer, and I immediately agreed that this new wonderland more closely resembled Hogwarts than anything the two of us upperclassmen ever saw our freshman year. Jules greeted us barefoot, with a bright smile and tight ballerina bun.

After a quick change into high-wasited boyfriend jeans and a turtle-tank (is that a thing?), we were on our way.

IMG_1609 copy

SMUstyle: Tell us a little bit about how you got to SMU. Was your sister, Delaney Pouch (SMU Class of 2017) a deciding factor?
Jules Pouch: I’d definitely say it was the unity that SMU had to offer. Also, I loved the idea of being so close to a big city like Dallas. Obviously, having my sister here is a plus and makes SMU feel like a home away from home.

SMUstyle: What do you plan on studying?
JP: Right now, engineering, but anything could change. Originally I wanted to study architecture but SMU doesn’t offer that. Eventually, I hope to do something with interior design.
Beauty and brains!

IMG_1574 copy

SMUstyle: What’s the best thing about going to SMU? Or even going to college in general?
JP: Having the freedom to choose when I go out, even if I don’t!
I feel ya girl….

SMUstyle: I am most looking forward to….
JP: Boulevards!

SMUstyle: I describe my style as…
JP: Under-toned, laid back and sleek. I’m a big fan of neutrals— denim and black are my two favorites.

IMG_1583 copy

SMUstyle: Being from California, have you seen your style evolve since moving out to Texas? Have you given in to cowboy boots yet?
JP: Not at all! And as for cowboy boots, I bought probably 4 pairs before I came. I’ve always been a huge fan of cowboy boots, so that wasn’t anything new for me.

SMUstyle: One trend at SMU you just cannot get onboard with?
JP: Chaco sandals.
No one blames you, honey. At least any of us on the SMUstyle team….

IMG_1579 copy

SMUstyle: Lastly, tell our readers what four pieces you couldn’t live without.
JP: A pair of Chucks, cut off jean shorts, turtle-tanks (SMUstyle: again…. still unsure if this is a thing… we’ll just go with it), and my three rings that I wear every day: an infinity symbol, one reading “I Thank God Every Time I Remember You,” and one reading “I Promise to Keep My Word”

As I am a big fan of making opinions for myself, I deem the rumors to be true: this girl is freakin’ amazing!

Who She Is:

Jane Jestus, sophomore from Chattanooga Tennessee

Why It Works:

What’s a small town Tennessee girl doing with killer Nicole Riche-inspired locks? Rocking it of course! And white jeans after Labor Day? Like my mother always said, rules are meant to be broken (as long as you do it in style).

What She Had to Say:
“I have a hair appointment for tomorrow to add in more purple, but I’m tempted to cancel it and just do it myself!”
That is so cool.
