Daenerys of the House Targaryen. Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea. Protector of the Realm. Lady Regnant of the Seven Kingdoms. Breaker of Chains. Mother of Dragons. With 30 titles under her belt, you can call her what you want. But with all of her dragon flying and kingdom conquering, it seem we’ve forgotten yet another title she’s earned: Flyest Dresser of the Realm. Whether she’s walking through flames or mowing down a Lannister army, never expect a hair out of place. Because the Khaleesi’s typical looks involve deep backs, plunging necklines, and bare arms, I’ve been anxious to see how she tackles Winter (it’s here, you know). As many have before me, I underestimated Daenarys and lost. She’s taking winter by the horns.Costume designer Michelle Clapton’s would shift to winter was highly anticipated, and thus far, her work has been astounding. The way she’s dressed Daenary’s (as well as Cersei, Sansa, and the rest) gives important insights into the story. Whether subconsciously or not, the power of good design gives us clues into the mind of each character. With Daenarys, Clapton’s use of furs, metals, dark colors, strong shoulders and heavy fabrics have illustrated the shift in her mindset and a maturation in her leadership. Beyond that? She looks killer.
We’ve got a year to wait before Daenery’s handles the Army of the Dead. What I’m more anxious for? The coat she wears while doing it.
