Dreams at a Discount: Adam Levine for Kmart

Sorry ladies, this one is for the gentlemen. But then again is it really….?

As Adam Levine was just named PEOPLE’s “Sexiest Man of the Year,” I think it’s safe to say that the majority of us females wish we had a man like Adam in our lives. And if you don’t? Well, at least you can start dressing your replacement to look like him!

While Target has consistently hit the ball out of the park with its collaborations over the years, the Adam Levine for Kmart collection deserves our attention now. This collection is swoon-worthy— for both males and females, regardless of who’s wearing it.

Date Night Revamped: LARK on the Park

Plopped right down in the center of downtown Dallas, LARK on the Park is the perfect revamped date night go-to. Facing Klyde Warren Park, LARK becomes not only a dinner date destination but an evening adventure. Last week, I spent the night munchin’ down on Sicilian meatballs, American Kobe eye of round Carpaccio (a mouthful, literally and figuratively), and may have snagged some of my delectable dinner date’s braised lamb shank. His review? “Nothing will beat the lamb I had in Morocco, but this isn’t bad.” If only we were all so lucky.

After paying the check, be sure to mosey on over the park just across the street. With the upcoming holiday season, the trees and pathways are lit beautiful with tea lights, which reflect of the skyscrapers all around you creating a breathtaking atmosphere.

Saint Ann and This Weekend’s Formal Frenzy

As expected, the SMUstyle team convened yesterday for our weekly staff meeting. With the break in what feels like sub-zero temperatures for this So-Cal girl, we decided to hold court over at Saint Ann awesome patio. Located just a block away from the Crescent, this converted schoolhouse boasts both a trendy Uptown-atmosphere eatery and art museum on the second floor. With cozy fire pits and a life-sized chessboard out front, Saint Ann would be an eclectic spot to surprise your girlfriends with next Sunday brunch. Count me in on that next round of Skinny Basil Lemonades!

First rule of marketing: know your audience. And by the looks of Nike’s newest campaign, its audience has changed. The new target for the Rose Gold Nike FuelBand is an arm-party-obsessed (a la Man Repeller), city-sleek fashionista just like you and me and I am totally into it. But if you are too, don’t wait— only a limited quantity of these babies will be released November 21.

ROWYMO Rock Show: What to Wear

This Friday (tomorrow), get ready to rock ‘n roll because it’s time for Rock Out with Your Moustache Out! As a lady, I dread the first day of November. Yeah, the first week of lazy bed-head and a little but of scruff is a hot look found on most frat stars around campus. But what happens 10 or so days in? Total moustache mayhem. However, I can’t complain. No Shave November is a movement similar to wearing pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and it benefits and supports awareness for men’s health. This awesome concert is no different.

Tomorrow at the Granada Theater, you’ll find the drinks flowin’ and moustaches growin’ while banks like Goodnight Ned and The Roomsounds get to rockin’. Get there at 7PM to be on time or like a true rockstar, pregame the show at a trendy Greenville Ave location and arrive fashionably late. Either way, dress to impress. Luckily you have me here to help with that….

Alpha Chi Couture

Last Friday I had the honor of modeling for Alpha Chi Couture, a silent auction and fashion show event put on by the ladies of the SMU Alpha Chi Omega sorority. The event was a smashing success, raising over $40,000 for Genesis Women’s Shelter, Alpha Chi’s philanthropy.

Expecting a basic pop-up shop event on campus, I was in for a surprise. This event was major. Put on by world-renowned supermodel  Jan Strimple, Alpha Chi Couture surpassed my expectations. Arriving at 3:45, I was greeted by the Avalon Salon team who did all the models’ hair and makeup (including foundation and a swish of lip-gloss for the boys!). As the Pi Beta Phi representative, I found the coolest part of the show to be how diverse the group of models was: a boy and girl from every sorority and fraternity on campus participated, including Alpha Chi alumnae.

The show was held at Tower Club Dallas, located on the 48th floor of Thanksgiving Tower in downtown. Check out the view from the dressing room!

All of the couture modeled in the show was donated by Tootsie’s for the women and a combination of  Zar Clothier, Beretta Gallery and WAREhaus for the gentlemen. The show was organized geographically with six different segments: Deep Ellum, The Blvd, Downtown, Park Cities, Uptown, and Tower Club.

At 7:45 the auction was over and it was time to hit the runway! My first look opened both the show and the Deep Ellum section. At my fitting at Tootsie’s, I walked in wearing a deep wine fur shawl and the lady styling me knew I’d just love this number. She was totally right!  I mean, that hunter green circle scarf?! How could I not.

With a quick change backstage, I was ready to go in my Downtown look. The goal of this section was to present a fresh, young take on old, stuffy Downtown Dallas workwear. I’d say we were successful. Best hidden secret: this royal blue top had a sexy open back!

And lastly for the finale— Tower Club. The looks of this section flowed seamlessly from the seats of the audience onto the runway. Elegance, poise, and glamour were the words of the walk and fit the ambiance of Tower Club effortlessly. Surrounded by floor-length ball gowns, I got to have some fun with this spiced-up flapper dress.

So yesterday I came across something brilliant…..

My friend Samantha Donat posted quite an intriguing table on her Facebook. When I inquired, she told me her mother, Jennifer Donat, was a personal trainer at a gym called Vivre in Palo Alto, California. Her mother sent this along to remind Samantha that everything has a consequence! I immediately thought I had to share.

Aftershock Afterdark

Gold, glitz and glamour— it all comes with a price, right? Well, at the recently-opened Aftershock London (located in Preston Center) you can have it all, and for a very reasonable cost. The huge European brand boasts stores in places like Egypt, Dubai, Greece and over 5 locations in London.  The eccentric European-style inspired look is evident in Aftershock London’s wide array of glamorous cocktail attire. It would be a shame to leave this store empty-handed.

We had almost a little too much fun playing with their assortment of different styles. From 20s flapper looks to sleek-city-girl style, each and every piece was a hit, making the decision on our top three picks for formal nearly impossible.
