Gwyneth Brings Goop to Dallas

November 17, 2014 by

Starting today, Gwyneth Paltrow is blessing Dallas with her newest Goop pop-up shop in Highland Park Village until December 14th. Opening just in time for the holidays, the shop will sell brands including Jennifer Fisher, Stella McCartney, Calvin Klein Home, Jennifer Meyer, RMS Beauty, and Clare Vivier. Today also marks the launch of Goop’s newest collaboration: Monique Lhuillier, which will be sold at the store as well. The capsule collection will feature party pieces for the upcoming holiday season, along with crop tops, flirty dresses, tea-length skirts, and chic cullottes. On top of it all, the entire store will be shoppable, including furniture and decor.

Throughout the pop-up’s month long residency in Dallas, there will be events held at the store, such as in-store monogramming and shopping parties with local talent. Also the shop’s neighbor, Number One, will have a gourmet Goop inspired menu.

Make sure to stop by and get some holiday shopping done, and of course, a few things for yourself…

Happy shopping!

The Man Behind the Camera

November 13, 2014 by

Taylor Lewis isn’t just our resident photographer, but also our resident stud. You may know him from his AMAZING photographs featured in many of our posts. Taylor is the full package: an extremely talented creative genius and the world’s biggest sweet heart. And of course, one of the stylish men I know, from his killer ring party to his extensive shoe collection.

So here is a peek into the life of the epic Taylor…….

So, what got you into photography?

Good question… I’m not really sure. I’ve always dabbled around in it, but I suppose I really got into it my freshman year when a friend and I were trying to start a blog. I began learning technique and developing my personal aesthetic, and ehhh I’m okay now.

(He’s better than okay…)

What are you inspired by?

Grace and Audacity

What are some of your favorite items in your closet?

1) My wide brim hat because it took me forever to find the perfect one.

2) My Lennon sunglasses because so they’re so classic.

3) My patent leather chelsea boots, well just because.

What is your favorite trend for fall?

Harnesses for girls and for guys, the return of the classic gentlemen’s waistcoat. And for all, clear framed glasses (oh yea).

Favorite band at the moment?

Arctic Monkeys always, but y’all know I love my thug music.

What is your favorite accessory?

Depends where we’re going! But overall, I’m a ring fiend, so they’re usually my go-to.

Who is your fashion icon?

It’s a three-way tie between Jay-Z, Lennon, and Johnny Depp.

What trend are you against?

The big t-shirt and running shorts…. come on now.

Keep an eye out for this one and his bad ass photos. He’ll be sure to take this world by storm.

Wang Out for the Girls…. and Boys

November 11, 2014 by

When I first heard about Alexander Wang’s collaboration with H&M, I was probably the happiest person in the world. I remember waking up early on a Saturday morning to Wang’s announcement he made the previous night at Coachella aka my dreams were coming true. After the almost six month countdown, the collection is finally here!!

Being an Alexander Wang enthusiast and lover of all things Wang, I naturally had to wake up at 6 a.m. and venture to Northpark with Daniela to be one of the first to shop the collection. After sitting outside the store for an hour, the heavens parted and we were finally allowed to get our hands on the most coveted pieces, fighting off a few feisty shoppers. But thankfully we were able to acquire the items we had our eyes on.

From the crop tops with matching leggings and the mesh lined dresses, Alexander Wang has created sport-wear-meets-street-style perfection at an affordable price. He truly is a fashion god.

Wang on my friends.

Freshman Rules {Blair Croce}

October 7, 2014 by

Meet Blair Croce. She’s one damn cool SMU freshman. Not only does this Dallas native look like a total bad ass, but she is one too. She already earned herself the position of The Daily Campus’s Arts and Entertainment Editor in her first week here at SMU… smarty. So naturally we had to get to know this chick who clearly knows what she’s doing.

SMUstyle:What has been your favorite thing at SMU so far?

Blair Croce: I am really enjoying the film program here. I actually just completed my first short film, and it was terrifying and exciting at the same time.

SS: Tell me about how you became the Arts and Entertainment Editor of the Daily Campus.

BC: I’ve always been interested in writing about the arts. I applied for the associate A&E position, but was promoted when my boss quit the second day. Considering I’m only a freshman, it was scary in the beginning, but I love what I do now.

SS: Being from Dallas, what’s your favorite restaurant here?
BC: I’m a foodie, so definitely have more than one. I love Hibiscus (steak/seafood), Malai Kitchen (thai), Taverna (italian), and Nobu (asian).

Untitled-1dress (similar)/hat/jacket/boots

SS: Who is your style icon?
BC: My style icon is actually one of my friends. Her name is Blanda Eggenschilwer, and she is a graph designer from Switzerland. Check out her instagram @blahblahblanda.

SS: How would you describe your style?
BC: I would describe my style as classic feminine with a modern twist. And lots of leather. Give me a leather jacket, and I might not take it off.

SS: Has your style evolved since coming to SMU?
BC: I love heels. However, waltzing around campus on stilettos didn’t work for me the first week. I now wear more booties, and when I really need to get something accomplished, I break out my black converse. I love the cute dress with sneakers combo.

SS: What is your must-have closet item?
BC: As previously stated, I love a good leather jacket. I bought a dark navy one from All Saints (a favorite store of mine) a couple years ago and still wear it all the time. I like that it looks like black, but is slightly different from the norm.

Be sure to watch out for Blair around campus, for she is definitely going to be making a statement wherever she is.

Welcome to Moschino’s Barbie World

October 1, 2014 by

Not gonna lie, I’m a huge Barbie fan. Always have been, always will be. So when I saw Jeremy Scott used Barbie as his inspiration for Moschino’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection, I became immediately obsessed. Scott perfectly mixed the quirky world of Moschino with the pretty-in-pink world of Barbie, bringing the doll to life. Models were decked out in bubble-gum pink garments, over-sized accessories, and the Moschino label in the Barbie font.

But what really had me jumping out of my seat, is that 20 pieces from the show are now available at Rent The Runway!!! With the click of a button and a much lower price, items from the collection can (temporarily) be yours! Dying yet?? Some dreams really do come true.

Not Your Basic Braid

September 10, 2014 by

A major beauty trend seen all over the runways the past few seasons have been a wide assortment of crazy braids from braided crowns to cornrows and fishtails. I love me a good braid so I’ve been experimenting with new and different braids and have been watching plenty of youtube tutorials on how to re-create the crazier braids out there.

My favorite style that I have been testing out over the summer has been the messy braid crown. There are some pretty complicated versions of them, but I go the easy (lazy) route of just doing two braids and pinning them on top of my head. Some may call me a milk maid, but I call it chic. 1 2
