Every year brings up-and-coming travel destinations that become a must-see. The last decade brought the rise of trendy vacation spots like Iceland, Dubai, and Bali.
After doing some digging on all the top travel lists for the year, we’ve compiled a list of the top 20 places to see in 2020.
Dubrovnik has a top spot on nearly every travel list on the internet and is the #1 place to see in 2020. It’s a medieval walled town on the coast of Croatia that is full of charm, beautiful beaches, fantastic food, and nightlife! Croatia has so many unexplored villages and destinations that the country will remain a hot-spot for years to come.
Dominica is said to be the last of the Caribbean Islands not overrun by tourism, so now is the perfect time to go! The natural hot springs, snorkeling, and untouched beaches make this island a close second to Dubrovnik.
Tahoe has been gaining popularity for years now, but 2020 is expected to be the year it gains worldwide recognition as one of the best ski destinations.
Cancun or Puerto Vallarta are fun cities, but they tend to be overrated. Tulum is now the spot people are buzzing about, and it’s the perfect place for spring break.
Galway not only has gorgeous green hills and coastal views, but it has been named the 2020 European Capital of Culture.
Tel Aviv, Israel
The city is known for its beaches, food, and nightlife. A great reason to visit Tel Aviv is to take a day trip to float in the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth. In the last 40 years, the Dead Sea has shrunk by one third, so now is the time to hop on a plane before it’s gone!
The home of country music is expected to be the #1 domestic destination of 2020!
Mykonos and Santorini are great, but there are so many other up and coming Greek islands that are worth a visit. The shipwreck beach on Zakynthos is said to be among the most beautiful beaches in the world.
Japan has been a popular destination for years, but in 2020 Tokyo will be hosting the Summer Olympic Games, making it the perfect time to visit.
If you’re not wanting to travel far this year, then Charleston is the perfect destination because it has food, architecture, and nightlife!
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
South America remains largely unexplored by American travelers. This year that is expected to change. The #1 city to visit in South America is the vibrant Rio de Janeiro.
This region is a huge up-and-coming winter sports destination. It has blue shimmering lakes, snowy mountains, and villages that look like they are straight out of a fairy-tale.
San Diego, CA
With LA overrun by tourists, the next SoCal city to gain even more attention this year is beautiful San Diego.
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Abu Dhabi has all the same energy of Dubai, without all of the people. The city is going to be one of the trendiest vacation spots of the year because there’s everything from beach-hopping to camel riding in the Dubai Desert.
Bora Bora, French Polynesia
Bora Bora is known as the most secluded island in the world with gorgeous mountains and sparkling blue water.
Martha’s Vineyard, MA
Martha’s Vineyard has been referred to as the toned-down version of the Hamptons. The town has the cutest Airbnbs to crash at for a couple of nights to relax and explore the charming streets and lay on the peaceful beaches!
Marrakech is known for its unreal architecture, exceptional resorts, and lots of cultures. Even though the Sahara Desert is far from Marrakech, there are still tons of surrounding desserts to go to for camel riding.
Lisbon is one of the cheapest cities to travel to in Europe, making it the perfect place to visit with friends over the summer.
Hanoi has become one of Asia’s top travel destinations, and it won’t be seeing a drop in popularity any time soon! Halong Bay is the main attraction outside of Hanoi.
Italy has always been ever so popular but next time you go, skip Rome and Florence and head to see a different side of Italy. The island of Sicily has stunning beaches, endless gnocchi, and quaint cobblestone streets.
